Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is still recovering from an 11 year civil war, which left communities fractured through violence.  Children were among the worst affected, suffering all forms of physical, mental and sexual abuse, including abduction, sexual exploitation, and separation from their families.

Muloma Women’s Development Association (MUWODA)
International Childcare Trust established a partnership with MUWODA in November 2011.  MUWODA was initially formed in 1996 by a group of displaced women, as a result of the 11-year civil war.  MUWODA has since grown into a community-based organisation that focuses on the empowerment of women and youth, becoming a registered NGO in 2009.  MUWODA aims to improve the socio-economic environment of marginalized women, youth and children in difficult circumstances through skills training, income generation activities, agriculture, health activities, human rights and peace building.

“I am now a productive woman after training at MUWODA..."
